"Everything Is Connected"

The phrase, “Nothing is ever as it seems”, has never been more true when it comes to, “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” Based on the novel series (by Douglas Adams) of the same name and co-produced by the, BBC America and Netflix, DGHDA, is one hell of a ride.
The title character, Dirk Gently (Sam Barnett), is a self-proclaimed Holistic detective. What is a holistic detective, you ask? In this case it means a detective that follows fate and the interconnectedness of literally everything to solve cases. Still with me? Good, because that’s about as clear as things get when it comes to this show. Don’t worry, that’s a good thing.

Queen Sugar

I haven’t been on-board with much of the featured programming on the, Oprah Winfrey Network, however I must say she got it right with, Queen Sugar. The dramatic series is based on a novel of the same name and centers around the estranged Bordelon family. Based in Louisiana, the post Katrina and present Black Lives Matter tone of the show brings to the forefront everyday struggles of the poor and under-represented African American communities in the south. Incorporating not just the racial and social economics of present day America, but reaching far back into the past, into long ago generations and reviving a rich Afrocentric culture that has largely fallen by the wayside. It’s a beautifully raw, messy, romantic and poignant show.

Based on a novel by, Liane Moriarty, “Big Little Lies”, starring Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley, was more or less what I expected and yet, still managed to blow my hair back. Aside from the beautiful cinematography, killer soundtrack and sweeping beach shots, the short six episode series was chalk-full of performances I think people should and will be talking about for a long while.

Shadow Hunters - S2, BETTER.

Against my better judgement, I continued to watch this show and in short, it got better. Like, A LOT. The producer's must have heard the bad news about S1 and made the MUCH needed adjustments. It's not must see TV by a long shot, but there's enough going on in S2 to pluck at the heartstrings of any supernatural drama lover.

Facebook feeds, Twitter posts, Reddit, a 95% overall Rotten Tomato’s score and just about every entertainment news outlet declares Netflix original series, “Stranger Things”, a massive hit. And what’s not to like? The entire series is like a bubbling cauldron of nostalgic stew. Starting with your base ingredient of the Steve’s, Spielberg and King, add a dollop of Carpenter, mix in some Reiner for good measure and you got yourself a monster show. Like, literally. There’s a giant monster in it.

When the first season of "Mr. Robot" (USA network) aired, I, along with a general minority of people, watched. But unlike the majority of those minority, I wasn’t rushing to friends, family and social media outlets, proclaiming Mr. Robot as must see TV. Uh-uh. Like a preggo teen on the verge of a big decision, this girl just needed time to weigh her options!
